INFO
Started playing guitar when I was 11 but by then already had the family legacy running through me!. My dad played cornet in brass bands and my mum was a pianist (grade 7 or 8 I think?) My grandad was a drummer and gran another piano player. My uncle David (Dads Bro) was drummer in a band called The Five Links who came to London from our hometown Sunderland in the 60's. They were ,according to my uncle, quite heavy in the vein of Deep Purple/Led Zepp etc....so maybe that's where my Rock/Metal influences stem from.....apart from just enjoying playing loud! I attended Dame Alice Owens school in Islington and Potters Bar and was originally Bass player in a band we formed at school called "The Roots" which after a couple more transformations went on to become Spandau Ballet...A great bunch of guys who haven't really changed at all and have given the world a few classic tracks on the way! I was in several other bands after that the 2 most notable being Eclipse With Rob Cardarelli on bass, Martha Demetriou on vocals and Alan Young on Drums. I played guitar. Alan went on to play with Alan Price, Eric Burdon and Alvin Lee and probably many more as I haven't seen him for a few years now. The other band was called Knockout and we did a lot in the Old Kent road area with our contemporaries being The Cutting Crew and Go West...That was a five piece band with Tony Tebbs on vocals, Pete Friedrich on Bass (Who now plays with Rainbow Rising and Guns 4 Roses tribute bands), Les Cook on keyboards and Chris Terry on Drums. Quite a prolific time in terms of songwriting and arranging for me. I now mainly play along to stuff at home and record / write using my trusty Korg Triton and Tascam multitrack. I also use an Alesis electronic drum kit to do 'live' drums and my guitar and bass completes the line up. Took lots of years out from playing live due to marriage and kids and a mortgage but spending more time on it again. Joined a covers band called Graphite Blonde at the end of 2011 as Bass player. At that time the band was Roxie, Karen and myself. We added drummer Ian Mitchell and guitarist Rob Millo and began rehearsing in earnest to start gigging but then Ian left to spend more time working with his originals band The Fortunes and Karen left due to commitments running Zumba classes. I invited Chris Terry to join us on drums and we did our first gig at the golden jubilee weekend in Chigwell. Ian Hardy then joined us on Bass and I switched to guitar and keyboards. Ian and Chris left the band in early 2013 and were replaced by Eddy and Keith on drums and guitar whilst I returned to playing Bass. Ian and Chris met up again briefly in Lithium until Chris joined The Rising as their permanent drummer. I left Graphite Blonde in the summer of 2013 and started depping for various other bands. In Feb 2014 I was invited to become the full time bass player for The Aftermath. My current Basses are a Lakland 44-02 and a Lakland 55-02, 3 Fender Jazz Basses (2 x 4string and one 5 string), a Fender Precision special, Bass Collection (SGC Nanyo) SB320, MTD kingston 5 string and a Musicman Stingray Slo special. For amplification I use a Fender TB1200 amp with a Bassman 610 Neo cabinet. I also use Markbass equipment and currently use a cmd 102 combo with either a std 151 HF extension cab or a std 104HF extension cab. I also have a little Mark 3 amplifier. I have recently acquired an Apple iMac and am currently learning how to use Logic Pro X as a recording medium.
